The 10th annual Orlando Folk Festival takes place February 10, 11 and 12, in the lakeside sculpture garden of the Mennello Museum of American Art in Loch Haven Park. Admission is free and everyone is invited to the celebration of music, dance, folk art, vintage crafts and... storytelling.
This year, we've added a special "Children’s Day" on Friday, February 10, from 10:30am-4pm. Children, teachers and families are invited to the museum to meet selected folk artists and participate in demonstrations and craft activities geared toward the young set. The traditional festival people have grown to love continues on Saturday and Sunday, 10am-5pm, per usual. There will be approximately 20 craftspeople demonstrating silk embroidery, chair caning, broom making, wood carving, weaving, bobbin lace making, spinning and pottery making as well as self-taught and emerging artists selling their work. Participants include Mr. B, Morgan Steele, Mary Jo Snell, Mike Melone and Dawn Schreiner, storyteller Joe Rosier and the Talako Indian Dancers. Live music plays all day on the outdoor stage booked with a lineup of folk and bluegrass musicians, along with other entertainers, including dancers. Throughout the festival, art activities and storytellers will be available for children to enjoy. Bring picnic blankets and chairs to set up outside to enjoy the spectacle and tour the Mennello Museum galleries, also open and free to the public. Properly maintained and leashed pets are welcome to attend with their owners. Food and beverages will be available for sale throughout the festival. Sponsors of the Orlando Folk Festival are United Arts of Central Florida, the Friends of the Mennello Museum and the City of Orlando.
