This reception is part of DeLand Art Walk 4th Friday. 4th Friday Downtown Art Walk is a fun filled evening for the entire family! There are over 20 retail shops and restaurants participating this month. Every stop on the walk will have a brochure with a map showing you all of the locations on the walk. This month we are thrilled to have Parker Sketch!

Parker Sketch will be at Newfangled Modern Market to share his insight, and answer any questions you may have about his work!

André Greppi, aka DRES13 lives and works in Orlando, Florida. Currently an art director at an Orlando advertising agency, André also freelances as a graphic artist and illustrator and is emerging as one of Orlando’s more recognizable street artists. With influences ranging from comic book illustration to graffiti and typographic design, his visual style can range from purely illustrative to a graphic blend of type elements and hand drawn illustrations.

City Of Orlando Public Arts

Public art is artwork placed in highly trafficked areas for public viewing.  Large-scale sculptures, exhibition spaces, and site-integrated aesthetic works are all examples of public art.  Concentrating on downtown plazas, city parks, neighborhood community centers, and municipal buildings, the Public Art Program strives to place artwork in highly visible locations and choose artwork that reflects the character of that community. 


The Public Art department oversees three galleries where rotating exhibits can be viewed; two of these galleries are located downtown in City Hall.

The Terrace Gallery, open since the dedication of City Hall in 1992, features national and international artists and collections, as well as Florida artists of renown.  Movable freestanding walls offer versatility in an attractive 2,000 square foot space that is able to accommodate a number of unique exhibitions.  The Terrace Gallery reflects the City's dedication to the arts and it provides a space where visual artists can share their insight with the community.

 

The Mayor's 2nd and 3rd Floor Gallery is specifically dedicated to Central Florida artists.  This beautiful circular gallery space on the 3rd floor of City Hall also encompasses the 2nd floor landing and extends down two long hallways.  Each gallery at City Hall has ongoing exhibits throughout the year, with each artist or collection on display for approximately three months.

National Arts Program

Historically, the obstacles preventing artistic talent from coming forth to be recognized have mainly been the expenses, art politics and commercial requirements of exhibits. The National Arts Program has absolutely proved there is another way.

For 30 years The National Arts Program has held annual exhibits featuring the art works of employees and their families in more than 450 large and small cities, counties, airports, hospitals and other organizations. What we have found each year is an extraordinary exhibit of artistic talent from "the people." It is truly the indigenous art of America! Do you have an organization that would like to host an employee art show? Are there over 3000 employees?

The Program is now producing "people's art" at a rate of some 30,000 pieces a year. All these paintings, sculpture, photography, and crafts have been exhibited for the public to see. This has been an immense public relations bonus for the cities, counties and commercial entities as it provides their employees with an opportunity to share a part of their personal lives that we would normally never see.
