This art show is themed around the Riot Grrrl movement which is a DIY feminist punk scene that was the inspiration for a new generation of empowered rebel girls to strap on guitars and stick it to The Man.
About Riot Grrrl:
Riot Grrrl was born out of punk/DIY/feminist movements in the early 90s and sought to challenge sexism, racism, classism, violence against women, was centered around media production (especially as disruption), and believed wholeheartedly in revolution from the ground up, especially through music (women-centered music, women in hardcore, women in the pit, etc.). Riot grrrl is closely identified with contemporary feminist movement, aka Third Wave feminism.
