Today's AA365~Spotlight Artist, "Jaime Torraco", 02-01-12

She was born in the great flat mid-west in 1982 amid an April snow storm, a shy girl who took quickly and easily to staying inside the lines of coloring books and petting any cats she might find lying around.  This progressed of course, to pencils and pens, markers and paints over the years, time spent solitary and in the company of like-minded pals honing one craft or another, occasionally meowing, and filling numerous notebooks with crude drawings of neighborhood kids and family members.

However, her skills increased greatly over time, beyond shaky cartoons and My Little Pony activity books.  After all, once found, art is the one thing never to be lost, always so ingrained in your identity once it shows itself to you behind the woodshed after school, [or behind your text books in math class].  After much thought in her first semester of college, it was decided that art should be her One Main Purpose, and she received a BFA in Illustration from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois in 2005.

She worked as a graphic designer for four years, being schooled in the Real World, but things decided to take a turn for the Artsy-er.  Jaime now focuses on freelance illustration and design, painting new works for art shows, crafting jewelry, obsessing over music, and filling up hard-cover sketchbooks with drawings far superior to those old notebooks [though I swear, they are great for a laugh.]  Jaime would like to thank everyone for their support and encouragement, especially within the last year.  She is available and more than willing to paint you a mural, illustrate your book or magazine, design you a logo or layout, make you a necklace, retouch your photos, be in your gallery show or make you a sandwich.
